Although disputes are never pleasurable, a relationship with no arguments or fights is not a relationship. There’s nothing more annoying than being with a partner who agrees with everything you do and say. However, constant fighting in a relationship is not healthy. So here are a few ways to stop fighting in a relationship.
Table of contents:
- Take a few deep breaths
- Count to 10
- Talk things out in a calm matter
- Write your feelings out
- Take a time out
- Phone your close friend
1. Take a few deep breaths
Taking a few deep breaths is one of the best ways to stop fighting. Take a few deep breaths to calm down. Or just step outside and get some air. Go to a local park or walk around the neighborhood. It might be the thing you need to get down to the real problem. Moreover, it can be a wonderful workout!
2. Count to 10
Another best way to stop fighting is to count to 10. Although it sounds silly, it actually works. Counting has a calming effect and gives you 10 seconds to think of a better way of getting your point across and it can also stop you from making mistakes.
3. Talk things out in a calm matter
By talking things out in a calm matter, you and your partner will be able to express your concerns. But make sure you don’t have any distractions. Go to a quiet place, and be sure to turn off the electronics. This will show your partner that you’re serious about making up with him.
4. Write your feelings out
One of the great ways to get your feeling out is by writing. Writing your feelings out will allow you to approach your significant other with an absolutely new perspective.
5. Take a time out
When you and your partner get into a fight, try to take a time out. For instance, go into separate parts of your house to calm down. Taking a time out can help your anger to subside and will allow for a good dialog between you two.
6. Phone your close friend
There’s nothing like speaking to someone who really knows you better than you know yourself. Your close friend can tell when you are being unfair and irrational, and hopefully, she is honest enough to tell you so. Many of us have that friend who sticks up for us no matter what, and if you want an unbiased perspective, this might not be the friend to talk to. In fact, spending time with friends can be a great way to vent, sending you home with a clear mind.
