No matter whether you’ve been running for several months or even years now, or you’re just starting out, I’m sure you want to know some tips to become a better runner. I’m a big fan of running and I’m always looking for some good running advice! I’ve got some ways to become a better runner, so let’s start!
Table of contents:
- Run early in the morning
- Eat properly
- Stay hydrated
- Upgrade your gear
- Warm-up before you run
- Cool down after your run
- Stay motivated
- Keep safety in mind
- Change it up
1. Run early in the morning
I know that if I don’t run in the morning, I won’t run later. Plenty of distractions and excuses will present themselves and keep me from my run until night, and for me, it’s too late! That’s why to run always early in the morning and do it every day.
2. Eat properly
Any person who has been running for any amount of time will say that it’s very important to eat properly. If you want to become a better runner, you have to think about what you are eating. Opt for fresh veggies and fruits, and lean proteins. If you are not eating properly, then all the time you spend running would be for naught.
3. Stay hydrated
During and after your run it’s vital to keep hydrated. You don’t need any fancy sports drinks or electrolyte gels, drink clear water. But don’t fill up before your run, sip while running or drink up at the end of your run. I don’t like water, so I drink low-fat no-sugar-added chocolate milk. You can also try this drink.
4. Upgrade your gear
If you are experiencing pain after or during your run, you might need to upgrade your gear, particularly your shoes! The right shoes and socks are extremely important to the safety and effectiveness of your run. If you are running in old shoes, it’s time to get the right, new shoes.
5. Warm-up before you run
Maybe you think you don’t need to warm up before running, but my fifth tip to become a better runner says otherwise! I’m not going to say that your warm-up must be time-consuming or complicated, you can just brisk-walk or jog for a few minutes to get ready for a run.
6. Cool down after your run
Cooling down after your run is as important as warming up. At the end of your run just jog or walk for about 5 minutes. It will help your body adjust at the end of your run. Don’t trust me? Try and you’ll feel a great difference!
7. Stay motivated
Just because you want to be a better runner doesn’t mean that you have to run faster. It means you put on your shoes and run, and sometimes even when you actually don’t want to. This also means you should stay motivated and inspired, so find out what moves you, and let it move you!
8. Keep safety in mind
I always keep safety in mind: my family always knows when to expect me back and where I’m running, plus I wear a RoadID safety bracelet. Put safety first if you want to become a better runner. Don’t forget to tell your family where you will be running.
9. Change it up
Maybe it sounds strange, but if you really want to be a better runner, think of changing on which surfaces and where you run. If you run on a bike path, run on the trail instead. If you usually run on a track, think about running around the other way! These changes will not only keep you from getting bored but also prevent injuries.
