8 Easy Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Whether we like it or not, the cold months are approaching fast and it’s important to be aware of several useful tips on how to boost our immune system. In fact, there is no reason to hate winter and I don’t understand those people who dislike this wonderful season because of cold and flu. To avoid flu and cold symptoms this winter, you should prepare yourself with these ways to boost your immune system.

1. Good foods

Eating well is one of the most effective ways to boost your immune system this winter. Opt for natural foods that contain plenty of vitamins and nutrients. The whole foods will help nourish your body and improve your immune system.

Make sure you avoid processed foods as well as drinks since they do nothing for you and they can even weaken your immune system. This winter tries to make and eat soups every day. They are packed with vegetables and whole foods and are good for improving your immune system. Moreover, they are delicious and warm.

2. Water

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you don’t need to drink plenty of water. In winter, it’s essential to stay hydrated in order to have a healthy immune system. Perhaps, you already know that water plays an important role in carrying the white blood cells throughout your body.

So make sure you drink enough water every single day. If you can’t drink clear water, you can add a slice of lemon or lime to your water to improve its taste and boost health benefits.

3. Vitamin C

Okay, I know it sounds like an old wives tale that oh-so-useful vitamin C helps fight a cold, but it’s actually the truth. The best way to get your vitamin C every day is to eat fresh fruits and veggies. I don’t recommend drinking juices since they are less healthy.

Choose kiwi, oranges, berries, and green veggies. Add them to your yogurt, oatmeal, soups, smoothies, or eat them raw. Their health benefits are immense!

4. Exercise

Exercise improves your immune system as well. You may say that you are busy and don’t have time to work out but trust me, it’s still possible to exercise no matter how busy you are. Work out for about 30 minutes 5 days a week and forget about cold and flu this season!

Moreover, there are some workouts that you can do in the snow. Grab your family and friends, bundle up in hats, scarves, and mittens, and hit the skating rink. Or, grab your kids and go sledding. Winter can be fun too!

5. Good sleep

Sleep is a significant factor in living well and strengthening the immune system. In today’s busy world, it’s difficult to get enough sleep at times. But when you’re feeling fatigued and run down, you are more susceptible to illness.

Remember, your body needs sleep to rejuvenate every night. Aim for no less than 7 or 8 hours of sleep every night, do yourself a favor.

6. Vitamin D

Since it’s cold, in most areas the sunlight is scarce, but it’s extremely important to get your vitamin D every day. Spending 30 minutes several times a week is crucial.

If it is impossible to get out in the sun, you can add vitamin D to your diet; there are many foods that are rich in this essential vitamin, such as shrimp, salmon, almond and soy milk, eggs, tofu, Shiitake mushrooms, etc. Make time to consult your doctor to find out the right amount of vitamin D for you.

7. Bacteria

Usually, many people think of bacteria as a bad thing, but some bacteria are really good for us. Now, I’m talking about those healthy probiotics, which are good bacteria. They can be found in foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, and some supplements. However, if you decide to take any supplement, make sure you consult your doctor first.

8. Positivity boosts immunity

It may sound unbelievable, but it’s actually true. What I’ve found is that a positive attitude helps improve the immune system and prevent cold and flu. Stress and negative thinking have a huge influence on the function of your immune system.

That’s why, it’s important to cultivate a positive attitude each day, regardless of the season. A healthy attitude promotes healthy lifestyle habits!
