7 Disadvantages and Advantages of Living Alone

It is absolutely a person’s choice to marry or spend the rest of her/his life alone. Many of us prefer to live alone, even if it’s for some period of our lives. Living alone has its disadvantages and advantages. Here are some of them.

1. Independence and sense of responsibility

Living alone helps you to develop a sense of responsibility and teaches you independence. When you live with someone else, you take lots of things for granted.

When you’re alone, you should take care of your health yourself, and there’s anyone to remind you of it. You have to clean up your room yourself and pay your bills on time.

2. No fights with family

When you’re living alone, you can forget about fights with your father, mother, sister, brother, and anybody else at the house. There will be no more futile scuffles and unnecessary misunderstandings, for there will be nobody at home except you. Although many people think that these fights are good because they bring you closer to your family, it’s better to avoid them.

3. Lack of company

One of the greatest disadvantages of living alone is a lack of company. It’s good to have friends, but we need parents, siblings, life partners.

When you live alone, you don’t have any relationship. Even if you invite your parents, siblings, or grandparents once in a while, you sometimes crave someone to watch a movie with or have dinner.

4. No rules

When you are alone, there are no rules to follow. A disciplined life is important, but living life and following the rules established by someone else is not a pleasure.

You shouldn’t follow such a rule as being back at home by a certain hour. You live by your own rules, and only you choose how you want to live your life.

5. Lots of savings

When you live alone, you spend less money. You shouldn’t spend money on anything else other than yourself. The one big advantage is that you have lots of savings.

You don’t have to give money to your children and other family members living with you. This means you can save more money for your future.

6. Unlimited entertainment

When you live alone, no one can force you to stop watching TV or lie on the couch and read books all day. You can listen to your favorite music at full volume and drink till late at night. Living alone means almost unlimited entertainment.

7. Boring life

Living alone might be really fun, but your life becomes boring, especially if you are not involved in any activities. Sometimes you will crave for something about it, but being alone can often draw your enthusiasm from such things as cooking a meal for yourself or going out for a walk.

Although living alone has many disadvantages, there is no guarantee that married life will give you a better life. It is a person’s choice whether to live alone or not.
