7 Things That Make Your Skin Look Older

There are many things that make your skin look older than you are, but I’m going to name the main ones. If you think your skin isn’t matching your age, you should figure out the reason and make some changes in your lifestyle. Check out a few things that make your skin look older.

1. Smoking

If you smoke, keep in mind that it makes your skin look discolored and much older than your age. And don’t forget that smoking is bad for your teeth.

With bad skin and yellow teeth, it really makes your overall appearance look much older than you are. It’s said that those who smoke in their 30s have as many facial wrinkles as nonsmokers in their 50s.

2. Tanning

Most of us know how tanning affects our skin. I’m not going to tell you that you should stay away from the sun, but if you are sunbathing the whole day every day don’t wonder why you look older than your age. Tanning makes your skin look leathery, and when you get older your skin could look rough and droopy.

3. Drinking

Drinking alcohol causes dehydration, wrinkles, loss of collagen, elasticity, puffiness, and redness. However, it doesn’t mean that you should avoid drinking at all, moderation is the key here. Trust me, your drinking on the weekends won’t affect your skin!

4. Lack of sleep

Perhaps, it sounds cliché but you should get enough sleep. When you are tired, you are not going to work properly. When you are tired, your skin looks tired as well.

So make sure you get about 7-8 hours of sleep every night. If you have a very busy schedule, 6 hours of sleep a night will be enough for you and your skin.

5. Too much cardio exercises

It’s important to know that too many exercises aren’t good for you. If you are doing too much cardio, you’ll lose weight very quickly and it can make you look a lot older than you are for being too skinny. If you want to lose weight, be sure to consult your doctor and figure out what is right for your body shape.

6. Sleeping with makeup on

My mom always told me that I should take off my makeup every evening. If you want to look young, you should always take off your makeup before you go to bed.

It’s extremely important to let your skin breathe, especially during the night. Sleeping with makeup on will result in facial wrinkles and can make you age faster.

7. Makeup

If you are used to wearing heavier makeup, break off this habit! Heavy makeup doesn’t let your skin breathe and can clog your pores causing breakouts that will make your skin look much older than your age. If you are hanging out at home, don’t wear makeup at all or opt for minimal makeup.
