8 Tips for Treating Oily Hair

Treating oily hair is just a matter of learning which ingredients are good for your hair, and which you should avoid. Here are some useful tips for treating oily hair. Some of them you can use right now!

1. Make vinegar hair rinse

I know it smells awful, but apple cider or white vinegar can be a good remedy for your oily hair. Vinegar acidifies the scalp and cleanses away impurities and oils. Apply the vinegar rinse after shampooing and rinse it all out. For best results do it 3 times a week. Make sure you rinse well because it’ll stink!

2. Use lemon juice

Lemons have an acidic pH outside the body, and that makes them good for oily hair. Using lemon juice, you can make a hair rinse.

Take the juice from 2-3 lemons and mix it with a quart of water. Then shampoo as normal and rinse. It’d be better to avoid oily conditioners and use the conditioner specifically for oily hair.

3. Shampoo the right way

Don’t buy a shampoo with added oils like argan oil that is perfect for dry hair. Purchase a shampoo specifically made for oily hair. Make sure you wash your hair every day. You should also avoid shampoos and conditioners with silicone as they produce build-up and prevent good cleansing.

4. Condition only the ends

It’s important to condition your oily hair because it can become so dry that oil glands will go into overdrive, and you’ll end up having both dandruff and oily hair. Use dandruff shampoos and conditioners, and condition only the ends. This will nourish your hair so dryness does not occur.

5. Opt for aloe vera

Combine your shampoo with 1 tablespoon of aloe vera, shampoo, and gently massage your scalp with your fingertips. Aloe vera will help to detoxify your scalp of impurities and provide a healing approach to cleaning the scalp instead of a chemical-based one.

6. Stop touching your hair

Another best method for treating oily hair is to stop touching your hair so much. When you run your fingers through your hair or frequently play with it, oil production glands are being activated, and your hair gets oily fast.

7. Exercise to reduce stress

When you’re stressed, your body’s hormones are in overdrive and your hair follicles are in overdrive too. That’s why you need to reduce stress and the best way to do it is to exercise. Consider walking, pilates, or yoga. Just 5-10 minutes can really make a big difference.

8. Eat healthily

What you eat directly affects your hormonal glands. If you eat too many fats and sugar, it’s not surprising that your hair is so oily.

Eat healthy fats and fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Opt for less sugar and clean protein from all sources. Your hormones will balance out and your hair will be less oily.
