7 Things You Need to Do Before Coloring Your Hair

Many people think that new hair color can have a great impact on life. Dyeing hair can be fun, but there are many risks coming along with it.

After being a brunette for years, I recently dyed my hair blond. And if you want to dye your hair, check out some things you need to do before coloring your hair.

1. What color are you choosing and why?

Before coloring your hair, find out what is compelling you to do it. Do you want a new look? Or do you want some change in your life? What color do you want and why?

Knowing those reasons can help you in the whole process. This is one of the most important things to do before coloring your hair.

2. Do research

Search for pictures of celebs who have the same skin tones as you and see what hair color looks best on them. It’s significant to have a sense of what you’re getting into before you dye your hair.

It will also prepare you. Check out what kind of dye is good and how to protect your dyed hair.

3. Pick the right color

This is the obvious thing you need to do before dying your hair. Consider your eye color and skin tone and see what complements you best.

Think about what is going to come along with the color you want. You should pick the right color, otherwise, you will feel regret for dying your hair.

4. Prep your hair

Coloring your hair isn’t the healthiest thing to do. That’s why it is important to prepare your hair before throwing on the harsh chemicals.

Opt for deep conditioning masks with olive oil and avocado, which are especially good for your hair. Make sure you have the most beautiful and softest hair before you dye it.

5. Do a strip test

Perhaps, this is the most important part of coloring the hair that most women forget to do. Before dyeing your whole head, take a strip of your hair and test the dye on it.

You’ll see how the dye works with your hair and know the end result. If you don’t want to end up with outrageous hair color, don’t skip this step.

6. Go a few hair shades lighter

This is one of the things I wish I’d known before dyeing my hair. Go a few hair shades lighter or you can end up with an absolutely different color than what’s on the box.

Take this tip into account when buying a boxed brand of hair dye. Sometimes you can end up with a color slightly lighter or darker than it should be.

7. Buy two bottles instead of one

It’s always better to have too much than too little. I’m sure you don’t want to risk running out of dye halfway through. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

So buy more than you need. I always buy 2 bottles instead of 1. Plus, you’ll have some leftovers to touch up those spots you missed.
