7 Smart Ways to Stay Hydrated This Summer

Staying hydrated is important. It prevents your body from dangerously overheating, keeps energy levels up, prevents wrinkles, and aids in digestion. If you feel overheated, become quickly fatigued, and feel your lips getting dry fast, you’re showing serious symptoms of dehydration. I’m not going to tell you to drown yourself with clear water to stay hydrated, even though that’s a good idea, just try using these ways to stay hydrated this summer.

1. Drink veggie and fruit juices

If you have a juicer, you may want to drink veggie and fruit juices. The benefits of juices go well beyond staying hydrated. Such ingredients as celery, cucumbers, lemons, apples, limes, and romaine lettuce will lend much more water than others. If you need a little zing you can add in some lemon and ginger, or try adding pears, apples and carrots to add a sweeter taste.

2. Eat water-rich foods

Another great and my favorite way to stay hydrated this summer is to eat water-rich foods. Oranges squash and apples are excellent sources. And my favorite sources include pineapple, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, romaine lettuce, and celery.

3. Drink fruit-infused water

Infusing water with frozen fruits instead of ice cubes is one of the best ways to stay hydrated without adding calories. Place a cup of frozen watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, kiwis, or pineapple in your water without adding sugar. The thing is that the frozen fruits will hold up much better than fresh fruits or ice. If you don’t have frozen fruits on hand, use fresh limes or lemons instead that hold up nicely.

4. Opt for caffeine-free herbal teas

If you don’t want to drink plain water, think about caffeine-free herbal teas. Since caffeine acts as a diuretic, it flushes water out of your body. To fight this, avoid coffee, instead drink caffeine-free teas, such as decaf green tea, or herbal teas like peppermint, chamomile, or rooibos. These teas come in a great variety of combinations and they are calorie-free tasty options.

5. Drink tons of smoothies

Drinking plenty of smoothies in the summer as well as year-round is another smart way to stay hydrated. When I drink a couple of smoothies every day, I’m almost never thirsty. Making smoothies with fruit and greens or water and greens is a wonderful way to stay hydrated and up your nutrition. All you need is creative imagination, a blender, and some great ingredients, of course!

6. Carry a water bottle

When you are working out, water must be replenished at least every 20-25 minutes. It is also a good idea to carry a water bottle with you to the beach, the pool, or if you are gardening! If you hate plain water you can add a squeeze of lemon. Get a nice water bottle you like, so you do not forget to take it on your way out the door!

7. Avoid energy drinks

Every energy drink is a terrible source of chemicals, caffeine, and other dehydrating ingredients. So if you don’t want to become dehydrated, avoid energy drinks at all costs and make sure you drink caffeine-free beverages instead. If you get enough rest, take a multivitamin, eat a healthy diet, and drink green tea, you will have high energy levels every day.
