10 Household Chores to Work Up a Sweat

Losing weight can be a battle. Luckily, there are some simple household chores you can do to give yourself a jump-start on weight loss. Get your body moving, burn away fat, and get the house looking great! Check out my list of ten household chores to work up a sweat.

1. Vacuuming

Dragging that vacuum around behind you, up and down stairs and moving furniture will help you work up a sweat.

2. Scrub the Tub

Scrubbing the tub or shower will get your upper body muscles working and help you break a sweat. Get right inside the shower or tub and scrub away. Be sure to spray and wipe the tiles around the tub as well.

3. Laundry

Bending down to pick up dirty laundry and carrying the laundry basket to the washer is a good start. Once the laundry is done and folded, carry each piece to the cupboard or closet individually. It takes a bit more time, but it keeps up the burn you’ve got going.

4. Mopping

Every surface that can be mopped should be mopped. You’ll be surprised at the work out that mopping gives your mid-section. You’ll be sweating in no time and your floors will sparkle.

5. Making Beds

Speed is the key to breaking a sweat when making beds. Work quickly, pull off that heavy blanket, tear off the sheets, run them to the laundry and get back to making the bed.

Set a time limit for yourself. The deadline will keep you on your toes. 3 minutes per bed is a good start for the first time. Challenge yourself!

6. Clean the Windows

Get out the spray bottle and newspaper! Clean every window in the house, inside and out if you can manage it. It will work up a sweat and tone your arm muscles.

7. Dust Light Fixtures and Ceiling Fans

Reaching will work your abs, stretch your muscles and get you warmed up.

8. Rearrange the Room

Move the furniture to get your body heated up and give those muscles a decent work out. You get exercise and a new look for your home!

9. Ironing

Ironing will build your upper body as you rid your clothes of wrinkles. Remember to keep good posture; it can help tighten your mid-section.

10. Wipe Molding and Baseboards

Get bending and reaching by wiping the dust off the baseboards and molding around the house. Again, set a time limit for yourself and you’ll be in a sweat before you know it!

Exercise doesn’t have to be done in the gym or with expensive equipment. You can have a fantastic work out while you clean the house! Get your body moving and melt away those calories while you clean.1
