7 Foods You Should Avoid When Breastfeeding

We all know that some foods are not good for our body, especially if you are a breastfeeding mom. We are adult and our bodies are stronger, and sometimes we didn’t even notice bad effect, but babies can feel them all. Some infants become too nervous or feel discomfort in their stomach. You must always pay attention to what you eat, because some foods can cause allergy in your baby. Take a look at the list of foods you should avoid when breastfeeding
Foods You Should Avoid When Breastfeeding

1. Nuts

Nuts are one of the most allergic products, so they are extremely dangerous even for some adults. If you have already eaten some foods with nuts, look on your baby and try to figure out some allergic symptoms, including rash and bellyache. If you noticed any of them, make sure to tell about it to your child’s doctor. You must know that many allergies begin from the first months after birth and you can provoke the most of them by eating wrong foods. Try to avoid them and you will simplify your baby’s life.

2. Fish

It was a surprise for me because I didn’t know that fish can be dangerous for a breast-fed infant. The main reason of it is mercury. Make sure you avoid shark, pike, albacore and halibut. Also, you should avoid dishes with marlin and swordfish. The worst effect that your baby can get from your milk, if you eat these fish, is development delays. It doesn’t mean that you should forget about fish food at all, just try to eat something like salmon or shrimps.

3. Gassy food

And here I mean gassy vegetables that bring a discomfort to both of you. even if you don’t have any winds after getting some peppers or cabbage, broccoli and other fiber veggies, your baby may get some discomfort reaction after eating. Also, you should try to avoid beans, because it can make your child feel some stomach upset.

4. Drinks with caffeine

What do you feel when you drink some coffee or any other caffeinated drinks? You become more energetic and you don’t want to sleep. And these drinks make your child feels the same way. Just imagine what it means for this little baby, especially when you drink some coffee several times a day. But coffee is not the only one drink that has caffeine, you should also avoid tea and soda. Don’t make your baby too fussy, this is not good and let him or her sleep well without any energetic drinks. If you can’t avoid them at all, just try to drink it less than usually. For example, don’t drink coffee more than one time in a day.

5. Garlic

I know that usually garlic is irreplaceable in many dishes, because it adds some special smell and taste for all of them. But, when you eat it garlic adds these things to your milk too. This can bring a lot of problems with breastfeeding. Some babies don’t like the taste and smell of this milk, so many of them just stop drinking it at all. When they aren’t getting enough “food”, they are very nervous and even feel sick. Try to avoid this ingredient in your food and let your breastfed child enjoy his/her meals. Sure, you can eat garlic but do it 2-3 hours before feeding your baby.

6. Citrus

As I’ve already said, nuts are very dangerous for a lot of people, because sometimes people suffer from allergy to this food. But it is not the only food that can spread some allergy reaction on the body. It can also happen if you eat some citrus fruits. We all love it, especially me – I can eat oranges infinitely. I’m lucky, because I don’t have allergy on lemons, grapefruits or my lovely oranges. And if you don’t have a predisposition to the citrus allergy, it doesn’t mean that nothing happens with your little baby too. You should avoid citrus while breastfeeding since it can cause stomach irritation or rash.

7. Alcoholic drinks

Sure, alcohol is very harmful, especially for children. Although you don’t give it in a pure way to your baby, he or she gets it with milk. And it affects the child’s body. For example, baby always wants to sleep and looks weakly. Sometimes babies even get weight problems. If some social situation literally forces you to drink some alcoholic beverages, just do it after breastfeeding and stop after one drink. If you can stop doing this at all – great! Take care of your child and take care of yourself!
