Sweet Dreams: 8 Most Common Dreams and Their Meanings

8 Most Common Dreams and Their Meanings

Not always sweet, but nightmares are also needed to shake up our sleep routines. People all over the world see similar dreams again and again and have no clue what they’re trying to tell us. Sometimes, the dreams have no sense at all, but still, some types of dreams are the warning signs.

You don’t necessarily have to be obsessed with your dreams, though. Just keep in mind the meaning of some of the most common dreams we all have every now and then and know what to expect every time you have them.

1. Flying

When I was a child and had this dream, my mom told me, “It’s a good dream that means you will grow tall, healthy and beautiful.” Of course, it was a simple, little fairytale, but her words helped me to stop dreading the dreams.

If you have a dream where you fly, don’t worry, it means you need to add more freedom to your lifestyle. Whether you work hard without breaks or you stay in an unhealthy relationship, pay attention to this signal the universe sends you and reconsider your life.

In many dream books, flying also means success. If you are working on a big project and had this dream, you will most likely succeed in it.

2. Death

When I was 12, I had a dream about my mom’s death – my hands are still shaking as I write about this. It’s was a true nightmare. I was so scared. I had been crying and feeling depressed for a few weeks. I remember that dream even now.

Moreover, almost every person I know or meet has a dream about death too. Of course, I spent a lot of time looking for the real meaning of this dream.

Some dream books claim that death means a long life (thank God, my mom is alive and healthy and I pray and hope she will live as long as possible!), while others assert that death signifies rejuvenation and rebirth of Self. If you are stuck in a rut or your job is making you sick and miserable, it may be a signal you need to make a small change in your life.

3. Traveling

No matter where you go and what means of transport use in your dream, traveling signifies that you’ve lost your way in life. You are trying to escape your problems, fears, challenges, and feelings. It’s a sign that you should stop running, admit your situation, and change it.

I usually have travel dreams when I feel exhausted both mentally and physically, which means it’s time to take a break and visit a new place. But it’s just my opinion.

4. Dead people

If you see dead people in your dreams, don’t ignore them. Whether it’s someone who was close to you like a parent, a grandparent, a sibling, or a husband, or simply your former neighbor or coworker, they might be trying to warn you.

They want you to avoid committing the mistakes they made or avoid a dangerous situation that led to their premature death. Or, they simply try to give you wise advice. Believe it or not, my dead grandma often comes in my dreams to give me advice. Even though I usually act as I like, I don’t ignore those dreams.

5. Falling

This exciting dream means that you have lost control over your life. In other words, you are stuck. Perhaps you hold a grudge, seek revenge, or simply not satisfied with your life – it’s important to realize and admit it. Your subconscious is trying to help you.

The falling dreams are a warning sign. Whether you hit the bottom of the place you are falling or you keep falling until you wake up, it’s time to take complete control over your life and leave the past in the past.

6. Chasing

The chase dream has many meanings. Dreaming about being chased means that you run away from your fears and problems and try to forget about them.

Of course, you can hide from your problems, but they won’t be solved until you find the courage to cope with them. If you are chasing another person, it means that you have an important goal to achieve or a person that you like and want to win their heart.

7. Sexual fantasies

Such dreams are not about unfulfilled wishes and desires of intimacy only. They indicate that you should spend more time with people you love and stop isolating yourself from others. If a lonely person has such a dream regularly, it’s a sign that they shouldn’t be afraid to start a new relationship.

8. Past events

Either you can’t forgive yourself for your past mistakes or you can’t let go of the past hurts and forgive those who hurt you. Your subconscious mind is begging you to move forward. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you erase the past.

You certainly remember it, but don’t dwell on it. Focus on the present moment instead. You will see how better your life will become. Next time you have such a dream, make sure you don’t ignore it.

We all have dreams, but not all of us pay attention to them. Even the worst nightmare may help you change something in life. You can decode any dream without dream books if you take time to think it over.

If you quickly forget your dreams, write them down. Don’t be afraid of dreams. Appreciate them and be thankful to the universe for giving these little warning signs.
