10 Best Ways to Relax after a Long Day

  

Your body needs proper relaxation ways to fight fatigue, stress, and an unhealthy lifestyle. Moreover, relaxation is one of the best ways to prevent weight gain, depression, and disease. Here are some of the best ways to relax after a long day.

1. Take a walk

If you feel tired and don’t want to do an intense workout, but you have some energy, try taking a 20-minute walk. I often enjoy a nice evening walk after dinner. You shouldn’t walk 4 miles, you can just take a few laps around the block! Walking is an excellent way to relax and a great preventative method for heart disease, diabetes, and weight gain as well.

2. Cook away from your stress

Okay, after a long day the idea of cooking may seem like a chore, but sometimes it’s one of the best ways to relax. Just chop, stir and cook away from your stress. You can play relaxing music to accompany the cooking. You can also cook in silence.

This can be a kind of meditative process that allows you to connect more with yourself and your food as well. There are some foods for stress relief you need to know.

3. Clean your house

Many of us have those days when we feel anxious and need to take the anxiety out on something. Some days a nice walk works, or a run, but the other days, cleaning is something that can help you. As you scrub, sweep, dust and mop, stress finds its way out of your body. When you finish, I’ll not only have a clean house but your stress is gone too.

4. Stretch it out

Take at least 20 minutes for deep relaxation and stretching. Don’t focus on exercise during this time, just perform stretches that target places that need attention, or areas where you feel fatigued and pain. From backbends, twists, to hip flexor stretches, and leg stretches, it’s one of my favorite ways to relax after a long day. Stretching moves lymph through your blood that helps calm inflammation and ease tension and stress.

5. Yoga

Another great way to relax is yoga. If you feel very tired, then do only some stretches as mentioned above, and if you have some energy, then do some yoga to calm yourself down. You can take a class, or do yoga in your own home. Just find some short routines on YouTube and try some new workouts.

6. Sit down and just sit

Sometimes this is the most difficult one for me to do because when I come home I have a lot of things to do before I can sit down and have some rest.

There is always dinner to fix, a bit of laundry to do, dogs and cats to be fed, or emails to reply to. But sometimes we need just to sit down! So take at least 10 minutes to sit down and simply sit. Your mind, legs, and stress levels will definitely thank you.

7. Light candles

When I’m home alone, I like to light candles, even if for just 15 minutes. Sitting still in candlelight and checking my email or reading a book is really relaxing. Light some candles whatever you are doing, and you will notice how they quickly reduce your stress. However, be safe and don’t leave the room when they’re lit in, and don’t forget to blow candles out before you go to bed.

8. Drink tea

Drinking tea is another best way to relax. Bursting with anticancer and antioxidants compounds, tea is healthy food for a number of reasons. At the end of a long day, sit down and enjoy a few cups of lavender tea or chamomile tea.

Chai tea, peppermint, and decaf green tea are also great for relieving stress. Try it with lemon, stevia, honey, and even a dash of cinnamon or ginger for digestive health too.

9. Take a shower

A shower will help you to relax too. Use a body scrub to ease sore muscles and reduce stress. Wash your face and your body with a natural sea salt soap which contains nutrients that detox and de-stress your body. After your shower, apply a little coconut oil to lock in moisture and give you soft skin.

10. Write it out

After my shower, I like to write out my ideas or thoughts. It’s not necessary to write about anything specific. The act of writing is a great way to reduce stress. I have used this method for several years and I have found it one of the most effective ways to relax my mind.
