4 Inexpensive Kitchen Hair Remedies

The price of creme rinse and deep conditioner treatments keeps going up year after year. Is it really necessary to spend a small fortune to keep your hair soft and shiny? Women have been using food as inexpensive hair care for thousands of years and you can, too.

1. Egg yolks

Egg yolks are rich in essential vitamins and proteins that strengthen and nourish your hair. Beat two to four egg yolks (depending on hair length) and apply thoroughly to hair. Leave on for five minutes and rinse with cold water. Avoid hot or warm water, as it will cook the egg.

2. Olive oil

Olive oil is another nutrient-dense food that conditions hair. Coat your tresses with the extra virgin, cold-pressed type. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap followed by an old, clean towel. Leave in for one hour. Shampoo several times to remove oiliness.

3. Vinegar

Vinegar is extremely helpful in removing residue that conventional hair care products leave behind. It cleanses the hair and smooths the cuticle. Use ½ tablespoon to one cup of water as a rinse in the shower followed by a cold water rinse for maximum shine.

4. Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise contains the best of all of these. Made with eggs, oil, and vinegar, mayonnaise is the reigning champ of kitchen hair remedies.

To use, coat your locks with mayo and, like with the olive oil, wrap with plastic wrap or a shower cap. Layer over the top of the wrap with a hot towel. Leave on for one hour and shampoo out, for hair that is strengthened, conditioned, and clarified.

Remember to be careful when using these food products. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, avoid them altogether. Also, wash your hands and utensils thoroughly after using raw eggs. Otherwise, enjoy your shiny, bouncy, and beautiful hair.
