There are many different ways to care for dry hands. Our hands are always exposed to such things as cold weather, harsh chemicals, and air conditioning that dry out the skin, especially the skin on our hands. That’s why it’s so important to look after them. Check out some ways to care for dry hands.

1. Wash your hands in lukewarm water

Hot water strips the skin of natural oils and dries it out. Always wash your hands in lukewarm water. This is one of the best ways to keep your hands from getting dried out. Wash your hands as little as possible because too much exposure to water may dry them out.

2. Opt for moisturizing soap

As I said before, washing your hands can dry them out, especially if you are using harsh soaps. To avoid this, switch to a moisturizing hand wash or soap. Avoid using harsh chemical soaps or regular dish soap where possible. Using a moisturizing soap will help in the fight against dry hands.

3. Choose a good hand cream

A good hand cream is one of the best ways to care for dry hands. Pick out one that has a rich moisturizing formula. There are many hand creams available on the market to suit any budgets and skin types. Skin absorbs moisturizer better when it is a little damp, that’s why apply hand cream right after you wash your hands to prevent them from drying out. If you work in an air conditioned space, apply hand cream frequently, as the dry air can affect the skin.

4. Sleep in gloves

If your hands are very dry then put on cotton gloves while you sleep. This can help keep your hands moisturized and prevent them from drying out. First moisturize hands and then put on cotton gloves before bed. When you wake up your hands will feel and look softer. It might feel a little weird at first, but it’s worth it if you are serious about caring for your hands.

5. Use cuticle oil

When your hands dry out your nails can begin to suffer too. Cuticles can crack, and dry nails can get brittle and break. To avoid this, apply cuticle oil to your nails every day and apply it often. Remember, nail care is also important!

6. Drink enough water

Your water intake is another important thing to consider in the battle against dry hands. We are always told to drink a lot of water for healthy looking skin. Drinking enough water also helps prevent your skin from drying out. Keep your skin moisturized from the inside out and always stay hydrated throughout the day.

7. Create a physical barrier

The easiest way to create a physical barrier is to wear gloves. When you are cleaning or washing the dishes, put on rubber gloves to avoid your hands spending a lot of time in water and in contact with chemicals or harsh detergents. When you are outside in the cold weather, wear gloves in order to protect your hands from the rough weather conditions.
