7 Sound Reasons to Stop Dieting in 2022

There are many sound reasons why you should stop dieting this year. As a dietitian, I help many people lose those unwanted pounds without dieting. Diets are not only difficult to stick to but they don’t actually work!

I’m pretty sure that you think the same way and you are tired of trying different diets over and over again. Regardless of what your scale says, you should give up dieting this year and in the years to come. Here are a few reasons why you should do it…

1. Malnutrition

Dieting can be extremely dangerous! If you are not well-educated on the diet you are sticking to, you could have numerous health problems without even knowing what you’ve done to the body. Malnutrition is a common problem amongst people who are trying to lose weight.

A well-balanced diet (not a weight loss diet) is vital since it provides the body the micronutrients (minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, phytochemicals), macronutrients (carbs, fat, and protein), and hydration. Moreover, diets greatly influence hormonal balance, metabolism, skin appearance, organ function, and many more.

2. Not listening to your body

Dieting teaches you not to listen to your body and this is another reason you should stop dieting in 2022. When you eat healthy lifelong, you listen to your hunger cues and learn to fuel your body for the tasks at hand.

And when you stick to a diet, you eat when it says, what it says, and, finally, how much it says. This means you don’t listen to your own hunger cues and cravings.

Since dieting is restrictive, it teaches you that you must finish your meal rather than stop when you’re full. Learn to listen to your body and stop following an unrealistic diet.

3. Healthy eating must be a lifestyle

In 2022, you need to choose healthy eating as a lifestyle instead of a diet. Whatever your age, it’s vital to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.

After all, eating a healthy diet is much more important than your weight. A healthy diet, rich in vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and healthy fats and low in processed foods, animal fats, and sugary drinks and sweets, will always keep your body healthy.

Remember, what you put in your mouth directly affects your health. Forget about all those restrictions, you can still eat your favorite treats. Just eat healthy 90% of the time, but allow yourself small treats 10% of the time!

4. Food is not your enemy

One of the most terrible things about dieting is that many people start to think of food as their enemy. Ladies, food is a great thing, and healthy food does a lot for your body, yet some of us think of food as a bad thing. Healthy food fuels your body to do all of the wonderful things which you do every single day.

It provides life, energy, and protection from illness! Choose the apple slices over the chips for your snack. These slices will do more for you than you’ll ever know.

5. Diets are too restrictive

Diets are very restrictive and they do nothing good for you. They just leave you feeling hungry, deprived, and nutrient-deficient after several days.

You have to avoid certain foods and drinks, making them more tempting than they’re before. Sure, we can avoid our favorite foods or drinks for a few days, but avoiding them forever is nonsense! The point is that the more you avoid something, the more you actually want it.

If you choose and learn to eat healthy lifelong, you can eat your favorite foods. Once my friend asked me when she saw me eating pizza, whether pizza is allowed on my diet. I told her that I was not dieting.

I can’t imagine my life without any pizza and I allow myself to eat it once in a while. It’s all about moderation and balance, but not restriction. You can still eat your favorite cake, just eat it in moderation.

6. Lack of energy

Another reason to stop dieting is a great lack of energy. As I said above, your body needs healthy food to function properly. Whether we’re running a marathon or sitting on the couch, our bodies need fuel to do anything.

You know, even breathing requires some energy. A low-calorie diet leaves you feeling weak, tired, and depleted of energy. A healthy, well-balanced diet provides the energy your body needs to function during the day.

7. Diet is hard to stick to

Diets are not only boring and restrictive, but they are also difficult to stick to! Stop dieting and start learning how to order, cook and eat healthy. You need to learn how to eat healthier in each situation that you’re in.

After sticking to a diet for any amount of time, each time when unhealthy foods come around, you are the first to overindulge. This is one of the most undeniable reasons to stop dieting in 2022.

As a dietitian, I don’t recommend dieting and I hope you’ll never stick to any weight loss diet. A healthy, well-balanced diet is something that you need in your life. Have you tried any diet?
