7 Ways to Know if Your Work Is Stressing You Out

In today’s increasingly fast-paced society, stress has become a way of life and many of us are suffering from it more than ever before. No matter how much sleep you get, you might feel exhausted or notice you are breaking out more often, even though you are eating healthy. There are many signs your work is stressing you out, and if you know about them, you can always make some small changes in your life!

1. Insomnia

Each night you are falling into bed very tired, yet you cannot fall asleep. Worries and troubles from your day start spinning round and round in your head, and even if you get some sleep, you will feel very tired in the morning.

You can also fall asleep fast, but then you wake up in the early hours and you cannot get back to sleep. If it sounds familiar to you, this is a sure sign your work is stressing you out.

In order to fight insomnia and sleep great, take a bath and drink warm chamomile tea before going to bed. You can also try a pillow mist with lavender, known for its excellent relaxing qualities.

2. Bags under your eyes

Bags under your eyes could be evidence of an iron or vitamin deficiency or a sure sign you are not getting enough sleep. They can also be caused by stress or illness.

So if you’ve noticed dark circles or bags under your eyes, pay attention to your diet as well as lifestyle and try to make some changes like going to bed early, taking a relaxing bath, and practicing meditation.

If you have always had dark circles and bags under your eyes, this can be genetic or because of some health problems. Be sure to visit your doctor!

3. Skin problems

Frequent breakouts, especially in the chin and jawline area, are another sign your work is stressing you out. Some other signs could include dry and flaky patches, extremely oily skin, or a dull and tired-looking complexion.

When you are healthy and happy, your skin glows, so if you are noticing itchy, irritated skin, it’s actually not your diet that is to blame, it’s your job! Worrying about a job and lack of sleep can impact your skin.

Use a gentle cleanser and high-quality moisturizer to gently clean and moisturize your skin. You can also use a homemade honey and sugar scrub. Honey is proven to have antibacterial properties and this is really soothing.

4. Your eating habits have changed

Have you changed your eating habits? This is a warning sign your work is stressing you out! If you find yourself relying on caffeine and sugar, fatty foods to give you the boost of energy, keep in mind that it can affect your health and weight goals.

I agree, this provides the body with a quick fix, but it will eventually lead to you feeling more exhausted since sugar is processed fast by the body and will leave you with that terrible mid-afternoon energy slump, where you are struggling to stay awake and alert at your workplace.

Try to leave all your worries at the office and make sure you snack on fruit and nuts throughout the day and eat a well-balanced evening meal. Foods like sweet potatoes and almonds are good for your body and they can help to lower stress levels.

5. Skipping meals

This is actually a dangerous habit, which can leave you feeling tired, sluggish, and drained. Moreover, your body will go into starvation mode and start storing fat, because it doesn’t know when it will get the next meal.

If you are constantly stressed at work, I’m quite sure that you skip lunch because you might not feel like eating. But you should never skip meals.

If you don’t want to eat, opt for some nuts or a piece of fruit, or try a light option like a chicken salad. Remember, your body needs fuel to fight stress and you will feel much worse if you skip lunch.

Don’t allow feelings of stress and anxiety to crush your enjoyment of work, and don’t be afraid to speak to your boss about how you are feeling. Some of the responsibilities might be shared with a coworker.
